Job description
This Position will contribute to the performance analysis of complex, multi-tier distributed software applications. Candidate will be expected to show leadership in unearthing and fixing complex problems to enhance product performance. Will work with the Dev and QA engineers, DBA, and Operations teams to analyze application features and their impact on the performance of the overall system. Must be able to engage early in the SDLC in order to influence product design. Must be able to work independently to define highly relevant test cases and be able to execute the tests along with providing accurate analysis of the test results. Must also be able to translate production traffic logs into traffic generator models. Be able to localize performance issues back to the code.

Requirements
- Passion for performance engineering and rooting out problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with developers, operations, release management, and QA peers.
- Knowledge of performance engineering processes.
- Keep abreast of the state-of-the-art in performance engineering techniques.
- Work under tight schedules and uncertainty
- Contribute to industry and technical colloquia; represent eBay at technical events and conferences..
- Web application load and performance testing with open source tools such as JMeter, Grinder and COTS tools such as Silk Performer or Jmeter
- Working knowledge of Java, Python, Perl, Unix and expertise in at least one programming and one scripting language
- Knwoledge of the communication stack including TCP/IP and related tuning
- Linux/Solaris tuning and application profiling.
- Automation Experience on Unix platform.
- Datacenter experience in scalability and high volume performance scenario testing.
- Must be experienced using Silk, Silk Performer, Jmeter and similar performance tools
- Knowledge of Oracle databases, NT, and Unix/Linux from a load and performance perspective
- Identifying project risks and making recommendations to minimize risks related to performance bottlenecks; ability to anticipate problems.
- Propose and research tools, scripts, processes to improve on methods of performance and load testing.
- 8+ years experience in requirements and design review and performance testing of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant applications in UNIX and NT environments
- Experience with Load and Performance testing techniques with J2EE, Unix systems
- Familiarity with relational databases (prefer Oracle), Unix shell scripting, XML, ISAPI, basic NT/UNIX system administration
- Experience with QA performance tools like SilkPerformer, LoadRunner, JMeter, Grinder
- Experience with profiling tools such and Dtrace and debuggers
- Experience with Java, Perl/Python assumed
- Project experience with IBM or other application servers a plus
- Knowledge of connection pooling/caching/network IO/JVM/GC tuning a plus
